I live and work in my native Southern California, where you can usually find me cheering my kids from the sideline, enjoying the beach, or browsing a bookstore with a podcast in my ears.

I started No Trauma Mama in 2017 after becoming a mother myself and waking up to a devastating reality: birth trauma is both common and largely preventable…and it’s baked into the very systems that are supposed to support us.

As a healthcare ethicist, I couldn’t unsee what I’d learned and most importantly I couldn’t stay silent.

a health care ethics leader, mother of three, and the founder of No Trauma Mama™

Hi, I’m Dr. Jennifer Dunatov

I believe that birth work is justice work. When people experience ethical, empowered, and respectful care, it’s not just healing for them...

It has the power to ripple outward, transforming families, communities, and systems.

I support visionary, values-driven birth workers and healthcare professionals who are ready to lead differently — with courage, clarity, and community.

Whether you’re part of my mastermind, attending a training, or sitting in one of my talks, I want you to feel more grounded in your voice and more equipped to create the change you’re here to make.

I hold a doctorate in Health Care Ethics from Duquesne University and have spent over 20 years working in clinical, academic, and corporate settings. My work includes providing ethics consultation, education, and formation experiences for providers, executives, and healthcare teams across the U.S. and internationally.

But my passion lives here: in relation with birth workers, advocates, and changemakers. People like you. People who believe that care should never be a source of harm.

Professional Background

I love writing, gardening, and beach days with my family. Most of all, I love creating brave spaces where healthcare professionals can grow, ask big questions, and collectively build a better future for maternal health.

Feeling dismissed in pregnancy?

“Ethics isn’t a checklist — it’s a practice of paying attention, of choosing care over compliance, and of staying human in a system that tries to forget.”
